Sharon

– born 4th generation Zimbabwean comes from a proud lineage; her Great Great Grandfather arrived in ‘Rhodesia’ in 1873 and spent his lifetime herding livestock and hunting in the wild lands between Pretoria and Vic Falls. He, Nellis Van Rooyan, selectively bred and trained his dogs to harry lions, creating the breed officially known today at the RIDGEBACK. Sharon was raised in the wilds on her parents Game Farm north of Bulawayo. Her family created Camp Amalinda 22 years ago. The building and design of Camp Amalinda happens to be the greatest piece of architectural prowess one will ever see or imagine. Lead by her desire to empower women and her love of her country she founded The Mother Africa Trust in 2006. Mother, businesswoman and community leader, Sharon’s passion and vision of promoting her country first is seen as the key to renewal in Zimbabwes’ tourism industry and in 2011 earned her the description by Hotel & Catering Magazine as a “sassy businesswoman” and “Hospitality Power-house” . Sharon recently presented at the Africa Travel Association Congress on ‘Women’s Engagement in Tourism’. And she is currently working on a book as a reference for her children about her life’s experiences in Africa.
Together with their two children, Sharon and Phil live in Bulawayo expanding on what has now become The Amalinda Collection. Amalinda remains the flagship of this Collection.
